Last week, as part of our work experience programme, we had the privilege of hosting two bright and enthusiastic year 12 students at our Bracknell office for their week-long placement.
During their time with us, they had the opportunity to work closely with our Bid/Marketing and Scheduling teams, delving into the intricacies of each role and gaining valuable insights into how their contributions influence our tender-to-delivery process.
They were introduced to the operational dynamics of the social housing sector, including property management and service delivery, and learned about the critical role service providers play in executing these tasks and the positive impact they have on residents’ lives.
Throughout their experience, they observed the tendering process first hand, witnessing the collaborative efforts required for successful project outcomes. Additionally, they shadowed our call scheduling team, gaining practical exposure to exemplary customer service practices. This included learning the importance of timely and clear communication while fostering a cohesive approach with our delivery team.
Their teacher, who visited during the week, said:
“It is always so difficult to secure meaningful placements, especially when the students are at a crucial point in their education. For some, this will be the make or break of pursuing a potential career in this sector.”
As the week concluded, the students shared their reflections and key learnings from their time with us:
“The marketing aspect has inspired me to follow and explore a career in marketing after finishing six-form. The collection of skills I learned has enabled me to develop my confidence in a new environment.”
Student A
“From the bid team I gained a lot of industry insight about how the whole social housing sector functions as well as the tender process….. and has opened my mind to the many different careers in the construction industry.”
Student B
At PiLON, we take great pride in nurturing the next generation of talent and are especially delighted to promote construction as a rewarding and viable career path, particularly to aspiring young women. It’s heartening to hear that one of them has been inspired to pursue a career in marketing, a testament to the impact of their exposure to our operations.
We’re excited to witness the future achievements of the many students we’ve had the privilege to support. 🌟
