There is no better testament to PiLON’s commitment to career development than our Divisional Manager, Matthew McDonough. Having started his career as an apprentice electrician and joining PiLON in 2015 as an Assistant QS, Matthew is one of two PiLON Divisional Managers and was responsible for approximately £18m worth of work in 2021 alone.
Matthew oversees a team of Contract Managers delivering Planned Refurbishments and Compliance projects. Matthew’s astute commercial awareness enables him to manage projects on a day-to-day basis while maintaining a strategic overview throughout. As a trained electrician, his colleagues and customers appreciate his insight and genuine understanding of the challenges faced by our teams working in customers’ homes.
Matthew is the key point of contact for several of our client partners including Clarion Housing, L&Q Group, and Optivo. He is liked and respected by client representatives and creates a positive working atmosphere that promotes productivity and collaboration.
As a Senior Manager playing a pivotal role in shaping PiLON’s future, Matthew’s input is valued on initiatives across the organization. Matthew is currently undergoing training on our GROW with PiLON Framework developed by our Head of People & Culture to develop his skills as a People Manager, and he maintains a constant dialogue with our Bids Team to ensure tender promises are aligned with our delivery.
As our projects grow in number and size, our Commercial Team is under increasing pressure. In recognition of his own career progression, Matthew has mentored two colleagues who started their PiLON careers as a Project Administrator and Resident Liaison Officer, both of which are now undertaking formal qualifications to become Quantity Surveyors. Matthew is an all-rounder, and we are very lucky to have him leading our teams.
