10 PEAK CHALLENGE FOR THAMES HOSPICE

On June 29th, a team of 32 brave colleagues from PiLON embarked on an incredible journey to tackle the Snowdonia 10 Peak Challenge, all in the name of raising funds for Thames Hospice. This formidable challenge saw us hike for over 12 hours, covering a gruelling 25km route and climbing 10 of Snowdonia’s highest peaks!

The Motivation

Thames Hospice provides specialist palliative and end-of-life care services to people aged 16 and over in East Berkshire and South Buckinghamshire. Their support extends to patients’ own homes and within the Hospice, offering comfort and care during the most challenging times.

During a visit to Thames Hospice, my colleague Daniella and I were deeply moved by the dedication and compassion of the staff. We learned that the charity needs to raise £38,000 every single day to provide their essential services free of charge. Leaving the hospice, we were even more determined to support their fundraising efforts.

The Experience

The challenge itself was far from easy. The weather was not on our side, presenting us with additional obstacles along the way. However, in true PiLON style, we pulled together as a team, sharing spare shoes and plasters to helping guide each other across tricky spots often pulling each other up the huge rocks that covered the entire landscape.

There were highs and lows for us all and I am so glad for my amazing colleagues who kept our spirits high with their singing, jokes, encouragement and camaraderie throughout.

I wouldn’t go so far as to say that I enjoyed the challenge; far from it, actually. It was tough, and I only just made it. However, I truly enjoyed doing something outside the office and outside my comfort zone, together with my colleagues to support this amazing charity.

The physical strain was immense, and now that we have recovered from the sore legs and blisters, the sense of achievement and pride in what we accomplished is overwhelming.

The Impact

Initially we set out to raise £2,500, however thanks to the incredible generosity of our sponsors, we raised over £6,300! Our heartfelt thanks extend to everyone who sponsored us. This significant contribution will go a long way in supporting Thames Hospice and the invaluable services they provide to families during the most difficult of times.

Thank you again for your support and encouragement. If you want to see how we got on, take a look at our 10 peak team in action in the short video here.
